MTB KEY CHALLENGES
Arm fatigue is one of the biggests enemies to a perfect single track, trail or DH session. There are many factors that cause arm pump but nutrition and hydration can play a large part.
Endurance from a nutrition perspective is primarily a function of fuel and oxygen at a cellular level. If your body is well conditioned, has the right fuels, can process them more efficiently with an optimized VO2 max -- this is how you go harder for longer.
Your body loses performance as you get dehydrated. At just a 2% decrease in body weight from sweating you are seriously impaired. Taking in water and electrolytes is key to maintaining performance on an MTB over time, especially out in the elements.
The mind is just as susceptible to fatigue as the body on your MTB; especially with low energy availability or dehydration. The consequences can be dire on a bike because of the speeds, so do everything you can to keep your mind alert, fueled and hydrated.
